wasthemaster: (I can't get caught)

[Life…was a strange, strange thing, Draco decided.

His life had started normally enough for the son of a wealthy politician and a trophy wife. His mother was a party planner on the side which meant social circles further than the eye could see, and his father being the Lucius Malfoy meant being in the public eye a lot.

It wasn't until he was about thirteen years old that he realized he hated his life. A lot. And it was all thanks to a certain, eccentric blond girl that he realized just how fucked up everything was. It wasn't until that late evening party at the end of July that he found himself tucked on the porch of his home with Luna Lovegood (daughter of famous editor, Xenophilius Lovegood, of course, and just as filthy rich as himself) that he realized maybe someone would actually listen.

He hadn't meant to pour out his life story to the girl that night. He hadn't meant to start talking to her about how his father would often times bully him into behaving and how he had to have everything planned for him and how he often felt like the worst person in the universe and just generally how much he hated everything. That wasn't the plan, but it happened, and Luna? Luna was really cool and just accepted it, and Draco felt for the first time he actually had someone who could maybe be a friend.

Over the last two years he had built this weird sort of friendship with the Lovegood girl. Over the last two years he'd also found special ways to cope with his toxic homelike. So what if he wasn't eating or sleeping? So what if he was marring up his stomach with little cuts? So. What. It wasn't like Lucius or Narcissa were going to notice and it wasn't like Luna would say anything. Luna was great that way.

They were fifteen now. He wasn't sure who started it first, but he knew that it was Luna who always found someone to buy the drugs from. They'd started small when they were fourteen with the occasional cigarette and moving on to joints. By the middle of their 10th grade year though at the age of fifteen they had evolved and Draco found his best friends were Luna Lovegood and cocaine.

The trouble, of course, was that Harry Potter was nosy as fuck. Harry Potter had been the bane of Draco's life for several years, but he had also been a point of fixation for the blond for just as long. He had all sorts of mixed up feelings about the specky git and sometimes Luna would be privy to Draco's private thoughts on the matter. Harry being nosy meant that sometimes it was harder to sneak away during school to meet up with Luna.

It had become something of a sick game for them. Draco would skip eating at lunch, waiting until study hall the next period, sneak out to find where Luna was holed up today, snort a few lines, and go back to classes for the rest of the afternoon. Draco was just a little concerned that Potter was starting to catch on.

Today didn't seem like the day though. He slipped out of the classroom and stepped into the hall, walking calmly to the empty classroom he knew Luna was in and where she'd be waiting for him. He knocked their secret knock to the tune of a seven second melody and without hesitation threw one last glance over his shoulder before slipping into the room and shutting the door tight.]
